The Pilbara Illusion
Due to lack of service and opportunity to access the blog we all wrote a poem to summerise our time here at Cape York.
Our Cape York Penisular Poem
Staying at Umagico, we slept with the beach at arms reach, We headed to the "tip" but were unable to have a dip. Up here the coast has a lot to boast, We caught some fish and made a gourmet dish, $20 for a huge fresh cray, we would love to stay. Lotte was in heaven patting the camp mutts -all eleven. At Somerset aboriginal painting the kids went wild but Tim's excitement was only mild. For Torres Straight we could not waite, We caught the Peddells ferry and we are all merry, For 1 night we did stay at the Island Thursday. Umagico to Weipa off we go, Crammed on the barge like a sardine we crossed the Jardine. Elliot and Fruitbat Falls are so gorgeous we don't miss the city malls. We had a short stint up the famous Telegraph track- we decided to go back, after tackling a ford with water over the bonet, the boat did float, this track is suited for a mountain goat. We all rode the bucking bull and watched with elation @ Bramwell Station. Weipa friends we did stay, their hospitality we would like to repay. At Weipa we caught Barramuni while drinking Bundy on a Sund'y. Archie was in an excited spin when he caught an 87cm threadfin, we were about to go back when we caught Mangrove Jack. Then we looked for a croc at the Rio Tinto doc. Chilli Beach was windy, we were sure not to see Bindi. When flying the kite the wind had such might we nearly took a flight. Getting oysters off the rock we cooked them in a wok. Still sleeping in our swags we nearly got wet as shags, so we lit a fire, ohh our life we do admire. Making damper, home school does rule. We did cross the famous Archer, Wenlock and Jardine River, through The Cape they do slither. The back window did shatter but it didn't matter as we drove to Musgrove, Plenty of cardboard and gaffa with no dispair we did repair. We didn't want to miss Karunda even though it was further down unda. So through a 500km back track limping with smashed window and 2 flat tires we made it without a stack, but didn't rate the eight or more gates to get there. Sorry Dad you're a grey Nomad (as said by Archie)
