It all began with a $16 barge ride across the Daintree River for our ute and boat and here we were ready for anything all loaded up with swags food and smiles. We got to Cape Tribulation without seeing a Cassowary even though each bend in the road had a sign to watch out for them. We later read that they are quite aggressive birds and to stay away from them. No fear though as we still haven't seen one and feel it may stay this way.
Staying at Cape Tribulation for 2 nights right on the beach was a great start to our first few nights camping. Going from glamping in the bus to swag camping was a reminder that we can still bought do it but we do like the comfort of our own bed.
Saturday bought a walk along the beach and over to Cape Tribulation then a nice picnic lunch followed by a walk back to the camp site. Cape trib is obviously a popular spot for tourists with small bus loads arriving constantly. Interesting to know it was named Cape Tribulation by Captain James Cook in 1770 and said "I named the North point Cape Tribulation because here began all our troubles," after the Endeavour ran into a reef.
Then in the afternoon we went for a well earnt swim at Morsons Pond a beautiful refreshing pond with clear water and a rope swing.
Monday we drove the Bloomfield Track, this was a fun 4x4 track with shallow rivers to cross and very steep hills to climb and descend. We decided though stay at Ayton at Hayley's campsite and get the boat at on the Bloomfield River surrounded by rain forest hills and mangrove banks. What a pretty place but no luck with seeing any crocs or catching any fish!!
