Soongies' Great Adventure
This morning started off by making the most of the free hot chocolate, decaf coffee and hot water at the hotel. We filled up our thermal mugs ready for the car journey and filled up our flask ready for noodles for lunch. The next 6 hours comprised of driving / being a passenger on the journey from Barcelona to Ontigola. We stopped for our noodles (this time with the addition of tinned veggies) at a rest stop but it was pretty cold and wet so we ate it in the car. We also made a few phone calls to our Aussie friends during the journey. We even went through the Greenwich Meridian archway just before hitting Zaragoza. It was a pretty smooth journey - most of it was on 3 lane highways with not much traffic. We couldn't believe the cost of the toll road though - it cost us about $45 AUD just to use a road! We arrived in Ontigola (which is a small village close to Madrid) at about 4:30 ready for our helpx (similar to workaway) adventure. We met Hanan, Mohammed and their 2 year old son Yahya (pronounced Ya-he-ya). The family contacted us through the helpx website as they saw we were both speech therapists and they needed help with Yahya's talking - that's why we're here! Hanan has Moroccan and Dutch origins while Mohammed has Moroccan and Spanish origins. We were treated to a delicious Moroccan chicken with veggies eaten the traditional Moroccan way (with the bread as a spoon) followed by some fruit. After lots of chatting and speech therapy discussions we then had a second dinner of cauliflower and leek soup! Yum!
