Soongies' Great Adventure
We had a relaxing morning at home today, although Calvin was a bit more active and went for a walk to the waterfall while Kate and Tim chilled out at the accommodation. It's a pretty impressive place for a morning stroll! At about 11:30, after having an early lunch at the cabin, we walked the short distance to the Gudvangen ferry terminal where we got on the 12:00 tourist ferry 'The Fjord'. This was a 2 hour ferry ride which went along the Nærøyfjorden and then Aurlandsfjorden and then finished at Flåm. The cruise was spectacular and it only rained a bit. At one point the sun even came out over the mountain. Basically the cruise went something like this....the ferry moves along very still water and on either side of the water as well as in front, there are mountains everywhere (a lot of them snow capped) and there are loads of waterfalls cascading down the mountains. And then occasionally you could hear epic rock / ice falls somewhere on the mountains! The whole experience was so peaceful and beautiful. We got to Flåm at about 2:00 and the bus that was taking us back to Gudvangen was picking us up at 5:00 so we had 3 hours to work with. We started off by going to the Flåm Railway Museum which gave us some insight into Flåm and the surrounding area. We then went for a short walk at the 'Fretheim Cultural Park' - basically a walk which gave a nice viewpoint over Flåm. The next stop was obviously the bakery. Tim had a chocolate croissant and coffee and Calvin had an apple turnover and hot chocolate. Kate had planned to get an icecream instead so she passed on the bakery options. Later on, Kate decided she couldn't wait any longer for her icecream so she walked over to the supermarket to get one but the supermarket was closed (it was a Sunday) so she ended up with a bakery treat after all - a choc chip muffin and vanilla chai tea. At least this delay helped with killing a lot of time sitting at the bakery. Before long it was 5:00 and time to catch the shuttle back to Gudvangen Ferry Terminal from which we then walked the short distance back to the cabin. As we weren't able to buy any supplies from the supermarket it was rice porridge for dinner - Tim's first introduction to it. Verdict: 8.3 / 10 (not bad when the only ingredients you have are rice, water, egg, stock and white pepper)!

Kim So many adventures! What a beautiful place happy travelers xo
kentishclan Too snowy to hop on a bike and pedal your way back down from Myrdal to Flam? I bet you were tempted right? My poor bum bones still creak when I think back to our mountain bike adventure. Best thing ever... but painful :)
soongies Haha wayyyy too much snow and ice!! It would have been a beautiful ride on a bike though!
