Soongies' Great Adventure
We had a good early start this morning as we had a 6.5 hour drive ahead of us to get from Stockholm to Oslo. We had lunch comprising 2 minute noodles for Kate and Tim and packet Barszcz for Calvin on the side of the road opposite a lake. After about 4 hours, we made it to the Norwegian Border. We expected to be checked by passport control on entering the country however it was just an easy drive through with no officials in sight. The toll system in Norway was a bit confusing as it is all done automatically - they must take a photo of your rego and then they send a letter to your home address. Before we checked into the accommodation we went to Holmenkollen in Oslo ready to go sledding on the Korketrekkeren - and old bobsleigh and luge track used in the 1952 Winter Olympics. Unfortunately the sledding conditions weren't very good as it was the end of the season so we decided against the idea but went for a short walk in the snow instead (and Calvin and Tim pitched a few snowballs at each other). There were plenty of cross-country skiers around and we saw the very tall ski jump! It was also a nice place to see Oslo. After this we drove to our Airbnb accommodation in Drammen, about 45 mins out of Oslo. The host, Filip, was very friendly and made us cups of tea (blueberry muffin for Tim and peppermint and liquorice for Calvin) while we relaxed after our long journey in the lounge room. Filip had just gotten back from Oslo and was busy cleaning - he has 3 kids usually running around the place, however they were away for the weekend so he was using the time to clean up a bit and sort out our rooms. While we were waiting, we decided to play Backpacker to pass the time. Filip also very kindly offered to make pizza for dinner for us which we were very excited about! He ducked off to the shops to get yeast and flour to make the pizza dough and after a little while, we were treated to an incredible dinner with Filip and his colleague and friend, Emil, who came over for dinner. It was one of the best evening we've had filled with food, good conversations and new Norwegian friends. Best Airbnb experience so far! It was easy to talk to Emil and Filip and before we knew it, it was midnight! The Australians went to bed while the Norwegians decided to head out to town.
