It is time for a long planned and researched holiday.
14 nights on 3 Greek Islands.
Fly and one night on Santorini
Ferry to Amorgos for 5 nights
Ferry to Naxos for 5 nights
Ferry to Santorini for last 3 nights
Cheapest flights we could find were actually with Thomsons which surprised us so always worth looking at your usual package companies as well as flight only ones.
Accomodation booked, all with Booking.com, it's a budget holiday as off to New Zealand in December to visit our daughter.
Car hire pre booked for Naxos and Santorini
Naxos Vision Car Rental & Motor Inn Santorini Car System
Booking on the fly at Amorgos
Hikes on Amorgos 2
Sea Kayaking hoping to do in Amorgos, done once before
in Skopelos was terrified but loved it.
Naxos 1 walk with others to choose from.
We aim to explore every single village, road, beach on all islands!
Our start was at 3am, 50 minutes to airport for our 7am flight. No hassle at airport all ran smoothly, well nearly. First Russ had packed rechargeable batteries in the suit case so we had to find those, holding up the queue to place in our hand luggage, then I forgot to put Vaseline in clear bag with other toiletries and was pulled aside!
Flight went quick, I watched a boring film with Colin Firth in it which did the trick of sending me to sleep!
We were going to catch local bus at €2 euro but there was a 40min wait so we paid €15 for a taxi to Pension Kavallaris 5 km away from Thira. Pleasant guy on reception who gave us a map explained bus stops, bakery etc. He said he would call bus office for time of bus tomorrow. Spoke great English unlike us who know very little Greek.
So off the plane at 1315 in the pool by 1415!! Not bad!
Such a lovely warm heat, not hot just really nice temperature. 1500 now so best sign off as we are off to explore Thira.
Explore Fira, Thira (seems to be spelt both ways) we did taking in the views. If I am totally honest I am not sure what all the hype is about. Did I think Fira was a holiday Wow, no. That's just me! We stopped off at Mo Daniels snack bar for a Gyros which was disappointment as not chicken breast just thigh. I thought it a little pink and he could see me looking and called me over to change for pitta meat which I enjoyed better. So thumbs up for customer service but not the best Gyros (certainly not beating one we had in Matala last year). Enjoyed an apple cider, Mythos for Russ coming to €20.
We wondered around not finding it too busy but certainly could tell who the cruise ship bods were. Locating PK Cocktails where we had pre booked a table for the famous sunset we then stopped off in a shaded spot for refreshments. Mythos of course for Russ and I had the most delicious chocolate milkshake. (€10).
So the sunset! PK's at 6 and didn't leave till well after dark! One of the best Mojitos I have ever had so,of course had to sample a couple plus a Martini Blueberry style. Russ also enjoyed couple of cocktails and, yes, Mythos!
We were amused at everyone trying to get a spot who weren't in restaurants or bars to capture the sunset. It was a good one and I thought the best was just before it went really dark.
We have seen just as good in our beloved Wales! I have to say whoever marketed this island has done a tremendous job. So much fuss over the sun setting or maybe it's just me.
So we left around 10pm, oops! 4 hours of drinking! Great bar, highly recommend, they are there to please you. Good booking system on line where you can see the view from the table you pick! They take this sunset viewing very seriously in Santorini!
We stumble across Two Brother bar and cheekily sit at the owners table! He was fine and after a while left us to it, a couple came over and joined us and we shared traveling experiences. Though I wonder if I made any sense as writing this the day after I had had rather a lot to drink!!!
So a great first day and night, slept well!!
Top tips- book PK Cocktails for sunset view, you have to do it in style once
PK drinks came to €69 minus the €10 euros deposit. cocktails were between €11 and €14 which was less than expected.
Two Brother cocktails were 241 so worked out €6 each.
