Woke up to a beautiful sunny morning in La Crosse. After a slow start, decided to go exploring the trail near the hotel. Walked along the Marsh trail. Lovely leveled paved trail through the marshes and some woods around the city. We saw animal life that included lots of herons (several types), egrets,ducks, geese, and even a small green lake turtle! The trail led us back into town and beside the university. Made our way back to the hotel in time for leftovers for lunch.
After lunch we strolled through the friendship garden to our afternoon activity, the La Crosse River Queen. This Mississippi paddle boat took us up river and included some great narration on the area and its history. Saw some more of the wonderful wildlife, including several bald eagles!
Returned to the room for a quick change before making our way to the Waterfront Restaurant, and it’s beautiful patio view for happy hour.
Found dinner at a funky pub, and enjoyed viewing the downtown and even stopped in a great bookstore. The sun was setting as we returned to our hotel, and the Mississippi River sky did not disappoint with its magnificent reds !
Off to bed for an early night, as tomorrow brings the long drive to the town of Wall and the Badlands.
