Woke up to a beautiful morning in Nashville. Decided to head into the downtown and take in a few sites before our Nash Bash bar tour.
Following a slight misstep as to where to park, found a downtown lot and started walking around. Our first stop, Acme Feed and Seed for brunch. This is a great place with our first live music of the day. Looks like it is in an old feed mill, and even has a rooftop bar ( seems to be considerably many of them here) .
After a delicious meal ( I think I am starting to like green fried tomatoes), started exploring and came upon the Johnny Cash museum. Of course we had to check it out. Johnny was quite prolific with his talents. Even as a non fan, I could appreciate his talents and accomplishments. The display included memorabilia and information on his life, activities and professional achievements .
Left that museum and found there was enough time to visit the Country Music Hall of Fame Museum. What a place! Along with their permanent exhibits, three other special exhibits were featured ; Loretta Lynn, Shania Twain, and the Johnny Nash-Bob Dillan connection. Got to see some great displays which also included the clothes worn. Old time country certainly had some interesting hair and outfits. Learned a lot about the musicians and history of the genre as well. Very interesting even for a non country fan like me.
Time to meet up for our day drinking tour. If you ever in Nashville, do this! Ryan our guide was great fun, as he took us to 4 different bars for drinks and music. He told us stories as we walked, continued while in the bar, and even got the band to play a request. He had great knowledge of music and Nashville. Started at a honky tonk bar on Broadway, next went to a blues bar down an interesting alley, then to the George Jones bar with its fantastic rooftop and music, finally ending at a karaoke bar with a bull ride!
Meet a bunch of fun people, including a group of 4 couples here for a long weekend from Seattle. The one man was even a graduate from Bucknell, who wrestled. Small world. Had fun hanging with them, and Larry even took a turn riding the bull.
Once the tour ended, made a few more stops listening to music, until decided we needed to eat. Found a great place with an upstairs outdoor seating, that guess what, had another great band. Ordered munchies and listened to band which featured a great female singer, while looking over the downtown lights. Fun! Can see why this is called Music City. From the time we got here around 11 ish until we left almost 12 hours later, there was music being played all around us at various spots, and we were able to see many great musicians and singers.
Back to the resort, tomorrow brings another day in this wonderful city.
