Started the day in our beautiful room at the Peabody Hotel. Got ready to leave (boo-hoo), and decided to go downstairs to the restaurant for breakfast. Had the best French toast I ever had ( can see why it is their specialty ) and some delicious French pressed coffee.
But unfortunately it is a bit of a ride to New Orleans. Will be back some day, as there was much we didn't get to experience.
Soon made it into Mississippi as Memphis is quite close, in fact if you cross the river, you are in Arkansas ( didn't make that state) . This part of Mississippi is flat with scrub pines. Made our way into Louisiana and driving south noticed more and more water, swamps and other inlets.
Arrived in New Orleans and got settled in our hotel, which has a view of the Mississippi River. After settling in, decided to go exploring. Walked down and through the French Quarter finding Pat O' Brian's. Naturally we had to go in and have a hurricane. Got a table on their outdoor terrace and enjoyed the terrific music the band was playing. Stayed long enough, that as it got dark, the fountain, which also changes colors, erupted with fire at the top! Spectacular! ( Larry claims he can build us one.)
Walked around arriving to see the shadow of Jesus on the back of St. Louis church. It is formed by flood lights shining on the statue at the rear of the church. Very cool.
On to find a place for dinner. Stopped and had some oysters and pasta, and off we went. Listened to a little music, made our way back to the hotel for a nightcap. Larry went for a quick visit to the casino, while I went up to the room to crash.
Tomorrow starting with a morning riverboat ride and historic tour.
