Another beautiful morning in Nashville. Sad to leave this fun city, but time to move to our next stop, Memphis.
Stopped for a bite to eat before making one of our shortest drive between destinations. Arrived at the Peabody Hotel for the night. The Peabody is a beautiful hotel downtown that is probably known best for its fountain with its live ducks. The lobby is beautiful with its fountain, bar, plush seating area, piano, and several lovely stores.
Checked in ( upgraded to a deluxe king for free!), and decided to go exploring. Made our way downtown past the Cotton Exchange on the way to the Mississippi Riverfront. Walked along the river and even saw a large river barge and riverboat . Wished we had time for a ride.
Made our way up Beale street and eventually found ourselves on the blocks where all the blues clubs and bars, as well as a few other famous stops are located. Continued back to the Peabody as we needed to get our spot for the duck exit.
Each day at 5 ( at 11 in the morning they do the same in reverse) the five ducks hop out of the pool, walk along a red carpet, and enter the elevator to ride to the roof where their $200,000 house is located. Found a place at the bar where we were able to talk to the duck master ( yes, this is a job). He told us they get these ducks as wild ducks, but keep them for only three months , then they are released to the wild. Makes you wonder if the ducks really want to leave, seems they have it pretty good at the hotel. What a hoot, the place gets packed, but we were able to see them.
Finished our drinks, and did a little shopping, before heading to the recommended barbecue place Rendezvous. This place is down kind of an iffy looking alley, and leads down to a basement. The place is a maze of funky rooms with excellent ribs! Got there before the crowds!
Wanted to return to Beale Street for some music. Stopped at a bar that had a huge terrace and two singers. Very fun atmosphere with even live goats climbing and a house cat. Left to explore when we noticed all the to go drink signs. Apparently this is the only area in all of Tennessee that you can walk around with an open drink container. Stopped and got a drink and proceeded to walk around stopping outside various spots to listen to music and take in the sites. Sure this place is wild on weekends and holidays.
Our funometer was getting pretty full, so headed back to the hotel. Would love to come back and explore more, but tomorrow we are off to New Orleans.
