Frost again this morning ! I am told this is typical Colorado mountain weather for this time of year. By afternoon it will be warm and sunny until the sun goes done, and it is cool!
Took it easy this morning, as our pass to get into the park was not until this afternoon. After breakfast, took a short walk along the lovely river path to a glass blowing shop. Beautiful glass creations made right here in the building. In fact there were two different artists working while I was there.
Made a few purchases. A pretty pumpkin like one I saw being made, and another made in the end of the day manner. Workers would gather up all their different colored scrapes they had at the end of the day and mix them together to make an item. Apparently this style became somewhat popular.
Then it was back the hotel, and off to our next stop Coffee on the Rocks. This coffee shop has great coffee and other foods, but its setting is wonderful. Nestled across from the rocks, the lovely property has a duck pond, and is also located on the creek. Just gorgeous, and on this picture perfect day, people were enjoying their outdoor time here.
Soon it was time to make our entrance to the park. Today we had a park plus entrance which enabled us to go into the Beat Lake corridor and its various roads.
Made it into the park and started our audio tour (screwed up and didn’t use it yesterday). Today’s tour took us in the beginning to the meadows and the foot of the mountains. So awesome and gorgeous to view the mountains and appreciate the topography from this vantage point. Saw the lovely river that cuts through, and elk in the meadows. Fantastic!
Drove on, and began climbing the mountains again. Our tour recommended we take the shuttle to Bear Lake, which we did. Such a beautiful area. We enjoyed a hike around this lovely lake surrounded by mountain peaks.
Back on the shuttle and to our car to continue our audio tour. Stopped at Sprague Lake for a quick walk where we saw several trout swimming in the stream that leads into the lake. Such another pretty lake. As we were running out of time, we were not able to walk all the way around it.
Continued on with the tour, then back towards the entrance. As we arrived at the Moraine Avenue area of the park, there was a huge backup. Couldn’t figure out exactly why, until we passed not one, but two huge herd of elk, the last led by a huge buck. Awesome!
Back to the hotel, and a quick stop to walk into town. Once again followed the river walk all the way to and through the other side of town up to the distillery for our favorite old fashioned. Decided to just grab dinner there.
Walked back to the hotel a little earlier to pack up for tomorrow. Off to bed as we drive to Kearney Nebraska in the morning.
