Woke up to a frost here in these mountains, but fortunately the sun is shining, and it’s warming up nicely.
After a light breakfast at the hotel, we made our way to the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center of Rocky Mountain National Park. Got some intel on the park and got in line for our timed entry at 11:00.
Decided to drive the Ridge Trail Road through the park. This road starts in a beautiful meadow, travels through aspens, along a river up the mountain with pines, and finally into the tundra( where there was some snow!). And the views of all this diverse
topography, is simply awesome.
Stopped for a few short walks, but decided to climb the alpine path tho the top of the peak. At a little over 12,000 feet, the biggest challenge for this hike was not the climb, but “thin” air that can make it hard to breathe. After a few stops, made it to the top! Simply stunning!
Returned to the trading post for a little lunch, and off again. Tuned around soon after, and made our way down the mountain, inspired again by the fabulous scenery. Turned into Horseshoe Park and were treated with a group of elk lunching at the edge of the trees. Wonderful! Continued on and saw some mule deer as well.
Left the park and returned to the hotel for a rest. Then I decided to go shop, while Larry watched the Phillies. Off through the spectacular scenic river walk into town. So pretty!
Did a little shopping, picked up a jacket at a cute store, and off to the winery. Larry met me there and we enjoyed tasting some locally blended wines. Then it was off to Full Throttle Distillery and Brewery for dinner.
This place has an awesome outdoor space, and great bar facing it. Sat at the bar listening to a great band, ate delicious salad, and had a wonderful old fashioned, which seemed to be their specialty, and may be the state drink of Colorado, as they are found everywhere!
Then it was off for the walk back, and soon bed. Taking it easy tomorrow morning, as we don’t have entry for the park until later.
