Woke up under the aspens! Seriously our turret room is covered in an aspen mural. Had a delicious breakfast with a southwest omelette and delicious pumpkin coffee cake as the featured items. Also enjoyed talking with a couple from Chicago, and another couple from Germany! This is one of the reasons to do a bed and breakfast.
Took some relaxing time and then decided to walk to the Baseball Stadium museum located near Coors Field. After a somewhat confusing start on getting in,the owner let us in. This museum is from this gentleman’s private collection, and consists of actual seats, windows, as well was other memorabilia from the 14 classic ballparks built in 14 years (1909-1923).
There was much more articles and other memorabilia as well, and the owner was quite a character to talk too. He is definitely very passionate about baseball!
Next we were off to meet our tour for the afternoon. Found our way to the pretty Union Station and the lovely area surrounding it. We met our guide, Joshua and proceeded to get in a van for the tour of the Rocky foothills and Red Rock Amphitheater.
Our first stop was the amphitheater which is also part of a park that offers hiking as well. Such beautiful views from the amphitheater, not to mention the theater itself. Fantastic! Found out the theatre was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, and this was the corps biggest project!
We then moved on up through the mountains, and stopped at the charming mountain town of Evergreen . Went to the local winery where the women serving wine was from PA, and had been accepted to Bucknell. Small world. Enjoyed a glass of wine on the deck overlooking the beautiful creek, and then it was on to our next stop.
Stopped to view a Buffalo herd that is part of a reserve, and on to Buffalo Bill’s’ burial site. This scenic outlook views the whole valley including Denver and the Coors brewery facility.
Drove down hairpin curves and through the town of Golden ( the factory is outside this town) which looks like a fun spot! After much traffic, and an alternative route through some interesting Denver neighborhoods , we arrived back at our starting point.
Decided to walk back to our area, and check out the speakeasy we had hear about. Sweet Action/Frozen Matters is the ice cream shop. Behind what appears to be the freezer door, is a speakeasy called Retrograde. Knock on the door , and you are admitted. While the cocktails are pricey, it was fun watching the bartender make them, and also chatting with him. A fun place!
By this time we needed food, so off to the Mexican Restaurant for dinner. We had planned on returning to the speakeasy, but fatigue got the better of us, so off the the B&B, as tomorrow we explore downtown Boulder and off the Estes Park for three nights.
