Colleen & Tom's Explorations
Up early - though I'd been awake for ages. We were out of the hotel just after 6am and on the train heading for the airport, which was hugely crowded at this early time of the day.
My suitcase was overweight (surprise, surprise) and we had to take heavy things out and pack them into hand luggage - still the same weight going on the plane, just a different configuration! All done in the crowded check-in hall of course!!
Our flight was uneventful, although flying in over London is always interesting, spotting the iconic features. We knew we'd arrived in Britain - only one escalator out of 6 worked!!! We spent ages in Passport Control line, even though we're more British than the Greeks and Italians who just pass through!!!
15 mins to Paddington on the Heathrow express then we decided to taxi to our hotel - he was less than impressed (because our hotel was barely a block away) but the luggage was heavy and I had a tummy pain. We arrived at our hotel at 11.30am for a 1pm check-in so we stowed our luggage and went around the corner for a $45 pie pub lunch!!! We finally got to our room and laid down for a nap at 2pm and woke up at 5.45pm!!!
After showering we caught the underground from Paddington to Oxford Circus (Bakerloo line) then to Tottenham Court Road (Central line) and then walked down the street to our theatre. We seated ourselves in our awesome seats and the show started 2 minutes later. Spamalot was brilliant and the visual effects were very clever.
We navigated the return trip and bought some yoghurt on the way back to the hotel room (that was dinner, at 11pm!!!).
