Shannon and Jess both decided to stay home today, so Tom and I went off exploring the Duffy land. We found Laurel Lough, Laurel Hill "townlands" (2 houses and a sawmill) and Lauren Hill Lough. We bottomed the car on a hill and thought we'd done some serious damage, but we hadn't, thank heavens. We found a dismantled railway line running down a boundary - it was built around 1850.

We then drove on to Clogher. There was no sign of Drummally Church, but the graveyard was signposted. There were the remains of quite a few little old stone cottages on land that used to belong to the Duffy's.

From there we drove on to Carra (Tom explored a disused canal bed along the way). We found Carra House, and nearby land that was Duffy Land as well (Annie's Bridge).

We drove on to Clones, where Patrick Duffy would have gone - it's not far.

This drive involved going in and out of Northern Ireland (the border crisscrosses the road), but there was no sign of border crossings. We drove out to Butler (Newtownbutler) which is in Northern Ireland, then on the drive south we found a check point, deserted (we think). We had a bit of a look around and then drove to Ireland, then back up what used to be the main road to Ennis. At the border there was a bridge that had been dismantled, so people couldn't cross.

We came back home then, to do the washing. One load cost two pound fifty to wash (with my detergent) and one pound fifty to dry - $8 - what a rip-off!!! The other load wouldn't start after we'd dropped our token in, there was no-one home at the owner's house, and we were disgusted. Cooked dinner and watched TV.
