This is my first entry from Egypt. The flight was a really long one. It was 14 hours from Sydney to Abu Dhabi. It was nice that Tim, Peter and Ben came and saw me off at the airport. My parents have already called me three times and I just had my first meal in 24 hours.
The whole Abu Dhabi Airport transfer experience is not one I wish to relive! It would have been better just to hang around the airport for 10 hours. Mind, the shower I got at the hotel almost made it worth it.
I got to Egypt yesterday and was driven to my hotel in a beat up car, blaring RNB, by a young man named Hamada. When we got to downtown, Robbie Williams started playing and I said, "I like this song" and he turned it right up. My hotel is right in downtown Cairo and you can perpetually hear the sound of Egyptians on the horn.
When I got to my hotel yesterday, I didn't waste any time and just charged straight out into the chaos! Without even a look at Lonely plant. Of course, I got lost for about an hour, but it was a pleasant kind of lost, if you know what I mean. I had the lady at the hotel put a scarf around my head like they do and I didn't get bothered at all. Amazing! I also got 1700 EGP out at the bank and could not close my wallet I got so many notes!
I had a pretty good night's sleep, despite being kept awake by the aggressive Egyptian Mosquito that just wouldn't quit and the fact I woke up at 3:30am due to my body clock not being adjusted just yet.
This morning I went for an early morning stroll around Cairo. It's Friday and Friday is a holiday, so thankfully there's not many people around. I walked about 2km, down to the Nile for a stroll and then walked all the way back to the hotel for a breakfast of bread rolls and cheese. Yummy. The tea was good, as is all Egyptian Tea. I am now going to put my life in the hands of the gods and attempt to get a taxi to Coptic Cairo. For those who don't know, an Egyptian taxi is usually a beat up 1970's fiat or Citron. Pray for me guys!
