Its final. I'm jumping off the truck today, I'm not going to Alexandria again if I don't have to. Especially as I've prepaid all the activities on my Libya trip and have to go again anyway. So after four months, this is my last day on the truck.
It was another day, spent being followed by the police and being angry that our desert Oasis experience had been taken away from us. Although everyone was a bit angry and frustrated, despite my need to make everyone laugh and continual outwardly positive attitude towards Egypt, no one was as angry as me. This was the reason I came back here on this trip! This was the only part of Egypt I haven't seen and some ass on a power trip had just taken that away from me.
We got to the Faiyum area and managed to embarrass the police into leaving us alone. The petrol station attended spoke better English than they did and told them how we felt. Up until then they thought they were doing us a favour!!!!!!
We rolled into Cairo and as I saw it appear on the horizon I muttered "Hello gorgeous" under my breath and once again felt like I had come home and breathed a silent sigh of relief. We pulled up in front of the Pyramids and as I went to jump off the truck I tapped Dave on the shoulder and said "Davey boy, Smoke me a Kipper, I'll be back for breakfast" and saluted him like Rimmer from Red Dwarf. I grabbed my bags and waved them off, I'll see them again in a few days, when they get back from Alexandria.
I got in a cab and asked for Sharia Talaat Harb, of course I was at the Pyramids, where only the Shadiest cab drivers hang out. The price changed three times on the way to where I was going, I hate Cairo taxi drivers. I got dropped up the street from Ramses II hotel and had to walk the rest of the way, with all my stuff, silently praying they weren't full as I had no reservation.
I saw the sign and felt relieved, I've come home I thought. Lucky for me the lift was working today and I didn't have to climb 12 flights of stairs with all my stuff. I got out of the lift and my bags were taken from me and I asked about a room. The guy on the desk said, "No problems", I also remembered that they organised desert safaris and told him I would like to talk about it with someone. He said he would get someone for me, but first I should go to my room as I looked tired. I couldn't have agreed more.
I set myself up and came back out to reception to use the Wifi to call Ben and let him know what I had just done. I guy called Ahmed, came and said he was here to talk to me about going into the desert. I let Ben go, so I could see what he had to offer. He offered me a 2 day safari for 680 Egyptian Pounds, a really good deal. With no hesitation I said, "Let's do it" I leave tomorrow at 7am. The others won't believe I managed to get to the White Desert after all. This is why I came here and I'm not going to miss it I thought.
After that was all organised I went out to get some food, credit and water for tomorrow. I washed some clothes and then went to bed. So excited about tomorrow!
