Day 90. We left Esperance at 7.30am for our long haul up to Kalgoorlie driving through some scenic salmon gum (Eucalyptus salmonophloia) woodlands and rising to over 300m elevation with a strong crosswind. Through old gold town of Norseman and stopped at old Coolgardie for lunch in the van by the park, some lovely old heritage buildings and a very wide main street. In the 1890's Coolgardie was once the richest goldfield in Australia but is now largely a ghost town and a very poor cousin to nearby Kalgoorlie. We arrived into Kalgoorlie early afternoon and checked into the new Discovery CP at Boulder. After resting up we met our friends Robyn and Ross from Canberra for drinks in Kalgoorlie town centre at the historic old Palace Hotel and dinner at the Exchange Hotel. Nice pub food of chicken schnitzel and beef. Checked out the front bar and almost run over by a 'skimpy' barmaid with big breasts and wearing only high heels and a g-string! Got get outa here! Ran into her again on the way out but Raechel was having nothing of this shinanigans! Farewelled our friends who are crossing the Nullarbor tomorrow and then we drove at night through the town centre of nearby Boulder and the old heritage buildings were all lit up, so beautiful! Drove 420km today, fine sunny day 25 degrees but windy.
