Day 51. Our drive out of Port Hedland fascinated us as we saw more huge port cranes and conveyor belts for loading iron ore onto the long Chinese bulk ore ships and a maze of train lines running in from the Pilbara mines. Also, huge piles of salt from the salt evaporation ponds. We travelled down the West Coastal Highway past Whim Creek Roadhouse and onto Roebourne, first settled in the1860's. The scenery was beautiful with the dark red rolling hills full of iron ore and the Millstream Chichester National Park on our horizon. We started to see patches of early wild flowers and stopped several times to photograph Sturt Desert Peas in their brilliant red clusters. Finally, we arrived into the pretty seaside village of Point Samson on Sherlock Bay where we will spend four nights with our friends in the Cove CP. Ross and I checked out the local fishing spots after a quick swim. Lots of port activity at nearby Cape Lambert with at least 12 huge Chinese iron ore ships being loaded or waiting offshore. Drinks and dinner tonight at the local Tavern - red emperor fish and chips a good feed overlooking the ocean. Drove 230km, weather windy and warm 26 degrees.
