Day 87. We took the Chester Pass Road out of Albany early today for the drive through the magnificent Stirling Ranges National Park which has been on our horizon for the past few days. The whole range was covered in heath-like wildflowers and the 1095m Bluff Knoll stood out. Stopped in tiny Jerramungup for picnic lunch in the park, the undulating country so lovely and green and yellow with wheat and canola. Then onto the South West Highway to historic town of Ravensthorpe noted for copper, nickel and gold mining. The countryside is ablaze with brilliant wildflowers and we stopped several times for photos. We drove down to the old coastal village of Hopetoun where we found a beaut van park which was once a mining village owned by BHP who sold out in 2008 but nickel is still mined here. Dinner tonight at the Port Hotel circa 1900 for a tasty pub meal of salt and pepper squid and chicken parmigana. Drove 370km, hot sunny day of 30 degrees.
