Day 47. Up early today as we are travelling south west to Eighty Mile Beach. Refuelled at Sandfire Road House on the edge of The Great Sandy Desert which we have been tracking all morning. Big mobs of cattle at the roadside waterholes. Arrived into Eighty Mile Beach CP around noon and met up with our friends Ross and Robyn from Canberra who are next to us on a grassy unpowered site for the next couple of days. After lunch straight down to the beach for a swim, but alas, it was 300 metres across the sand! Water warmish but we only lay down in knee deep water as we were not game enough to go out into the deep blue water! Raechel was busy collecting shells while I wandered about the sandy mudflats. We were struck by the beauty of this beach with its long white sandhills and reflective water as the huge tide ran out. On sunset we went with our friends again to the beach with our chairs, drinks and nibblies to watch a brilliant red yellow sunset with the full moon rising behind us. Barbecue for four at our van - lamb chops, buttered potatoes and green salad with a nice wine or two. Drove 350km today, warm 31 degrees.

mandy butler Paul, if you manage to catch any threadfin salmon they are beautiful eating, particularly the white ones.
