Our Global Gallivants
We ran a few errands today and went to Costco. The temperature was 85 (29) degrees today, so that means a trip to the beach. We went to Clearwater Beach today. It has been voted best beach in America in 2013. It is a busy beach and right across the street is McDonalds and restaurants and shops. There's also a lot of construction going on as well. There were a couple of little girls with their families by us at the beach today. The older one was eating a Cheesie and was just swarmed by seagulls. The younger one was running around and chasing them away. Was giving me a flashback to the Laurie and Jody at the zoo. Jody chasing a seagull and giggling until it turned and headed in her direction and then she turned and started squealing! An old guy was warning a kid on the beach yesterday to be careful with his food because a sea gull swooped in over his shoulder and snatched 1/2 a sandwich from him. If they know you have food, they don't leave you alone. Seems like they are a lot like people-they only want to eat the junk food on the beaching-if you're eating chips, crackers, ice cream, bread-expect to be attacked. If you get nervous and toss it, there's a crazy feeding frenzy where a whole bunch of them will start fighting over it, all the while screaming and squawking. We were eating dried fruit and they couldn't have cared less. A piece fell in the sand behind our chair and a persistent pigeon walked over and grabbed it while Dave was out of his seat. It was pretty happy with that and walked underneath the seat and out the front of the chair. A seagull promptly flew over and landed on the sand and slapped the pigeon in the face with its wing and then took the fruit away from it. I thought, wow, another flashback to my childhood! We barbecued some chicken for dinner, so I had a pretty great day.
