Day 190, 10 January 2013, Final day in Knott and off on adventures this afternoon. Thankfully we packed yesterday so this morning was just tidying up and cleaning out the fridge (which we then called "lunch"). Don, the best cab driver on Skye came and picked us up at 2.30 and we headed into Portree to say goodbye to new friends and catch the bus to Fort William. Stunning sunset scenery on the way back (see picture) - particularly Eileen Donan castle backlit with lemon yellow sunset rays (no picture - jolly hard taking photos through dirty bus windows, at speed). Excellent weather meant the bus driver could indulge his Formula 1 tendencies and we made it to Fort William 5 minutes ahead of schedule - jets were cooled, coffee was had and before we knew it, it was time to get on the sleeper back to London. Seemed like it was only a 3 carriage train at that point with maybe 8 passengers - but it grew during the night with carriages and people being picked up en route. Only problem with the Fort William to London sleeper is that it arrives too soon! Smack on time at 7.47 am. Hello London - whatever are we going to do until the airport train to Luton at 2.30 pm?
OK. Now if you've missed eveything else, here's the lowdown on Skye. Brilliant in winter. No tourists. Easy to get to (sleeper train from London to Fort William. Bus to Portree. Cab to Knott. Stay at www.knottskye.co.uk (recommend Studio 1). Get a rental car or prepare for LOTS of tranquillity. If you need to air out your bank account, contact Ian at Isle of Skye Real Estate to buy a wee highland weekender. Contact Don the brilliant cabbie to take you anywhere on the island or on a tour. (www.donstaxis.vpweb.co.uk). Right then. 'Nuff said. Bulgaria here we come).
