Day 137, 18 November 2012, Writtle, Essex. We ventured off via a network of public footpaths and parks and walked to the teeny village of Writtle (pronunciation of the "t"s is apparently optional). There was a big glowing orb in the sky today against a blue background - quite alarming until we realised it was just sunshine! All day. So a perfect opportunity for a walk and we were rewarded by having a particularly friendly squirrel run through the trees and follow our path. We made it to Writtle and sat in the sun near the duck pond on the village green and just took it all in. (As a huge fan of Midsomer Murders, I'd have to say this would be a perfect setting for the bodies to start piling up). Nevertheless we took a chance on lunch at the Rose & Crown and were lucky enough to get a table before hordes of locals arrived for their Sunday lunches. Excellent lunch and by the time we finished it was getting late and cold (easily 2 pm) so time to meander home. Important things needed to be done (and have been) - including packing a small bag each for our four day rail trip to York. ETD 10.40 am tomorrow morning.
