Day 187, 7 January 2013, Waternish and www.skyeskyns.co.uk - It stopped raining for a short while after lunch and fine weather threatened to break out (but didn't managed to hold true to it's promise). In any event we launched ourselves out of the house and drove down the road to visit the boutique tannery at Skye Skyns. Now in theory, being a New Zealander by birth, I at least should know how to make sheepskins from scratch. But I didn't. So the demonstration in the workshop was fascinating - not a touristy demo - an actual show and tell of these are the skins I'm working on right now and this is what happens next and a look in the drying room to see the nearly finished products. Fascinating stuff. Managed to avoid buying any of the lovely rugs and cushions. Which is a strange but true form of success when travelling for extended periods. Caught this fabulous view of a windmill, the sky and the road to nowhere as we left the showroom. It's actually the road to Stein, but let's not quibble. Big outing scheduled tomorrow to get some nibbles and drinks in for James's birthday. Plus a meander to Broadford, Lochalsh and an extended visit to the Portree Visitor Information Centre to print out the masses of train tickets booked yesterday. Big day ahead indeed.
