So we're in Texas now and yes it is big!! Spent the night in Van Horn and then went off to Fort Davis in the morning. A lot of it was ruins but there were still plenty of intact original buildings and some of them they had fitted out exactly as they would have been in the mid 1880's. I didn't get any photos of the Commanding Officers house because Jim had run away with the camera, but it was very nice, not what I had imagined life in the fort to be.

After that we went down to the Big Bend Ranch State Park and drove alongside the Rio Grande. This runs the whole border of Texas and Mexico and there wasn't a great deal of water in some places so we could have walked over. This probably explains the huge amount of border control vehicles you see everywhere and inspection stations you go through.
