Today we decided that as it was the last Saturday we would be in Suzhou and it was close to Kelly’s and my birthday’s we would have a birthday party. I had to work and so did Paul and Kelly so, on my lunch break, I popped out to try and find Kelly a present. I had seen a little shop inside the Tesco at the end of my road by work (Yushan Lu – Amber Mountain Road) that sold lovely hair things so I went in to see what was what. I found out that if you bought one of their hair thingys you could have wonderful things done to your hair by the staff there using that specific clip forever. You just had to take the clip in to the shop, they would recognise it and you could have your hair done for a night out. Paul was always complaining Kelly didn’t do enough with her hair so it seemed like the perfect present. They were ludicrously expensive – but I guess that’s because of the going back again and again thing.
Kelly and I met at home and got ready then we took Maya, one of Kelly’s work mates, and went to the shop. I was hoping to buy one too so we both sat down and they did wonderful French plaits and curls and buns in our hair then proceeded to add clips with gay abandon. When I started to mention price as we were going to be late for dinner they told me Kellys do alone was going to be 1000 Yuen. That’s 100 Pounds! We hurriedly removed clips and I decided that as I was leaving Suzhou in a week I wouldn’t get one. Kelly chose her favourite clip and that was her birthday present from me and Vincent. I didn’t mind forking out a lot for it as we have been staying at their house for free for 2 months.
We had our party at Q’s club where I now know most of the people and it was a great night with the band there doing a special rendition of happy birthday to me!
