Today we decided to go to Walking Street. We got a cab there and Pauls recommended we look in the shops and have fun spending our money. When we got there it was almost lunch time so the hassle of finding something vegetarian was top in our minds. We walked down the pedestrian street looking at all the shops - amazing after being in India where there are just a few little shops dotted around even in the busiest areas. The prices sadly were not favourable. Even though things were cheaper than in England when used to paying a few Rupees for what we wanted paying a few RMB was very pricey, 1 RMB is about 10 Rupees and things were roughly 10 times more expensive.Half way down walking street was a beautiful Pagoda so we stopped and had a look round that and ventured into some of the back streets to see what we could find. Well unless you wanted squid on a stick (no really! A squid on a stick.) there wasn't much doing. When we reached the end of the street we found a relatively safe looking place to eat and ventured inside. I say safe, what I mean is not MacDonald's or squid on a stick! Well we got to the counter and saw that there was nothing in English and no pictures of the food. We panicked slightly and discussed our options but then the girl behind the counter said 'can I help you?' totally relieved we began the process of explaining vegetarian to her and her English was pretty good so we got veggie dumplings and an egg and tomato soup. It was lovely and also hot which was good because as usual the restaurant wasn't.Next we decided to venture in to a department store. It was full of wonderful sights we hadn't seen for ages like brand name soaps and cosmetics, warm clothes and fancy shoes. I found the ultimate coat a fluffy knee length one that wasn't just a bit fluffy it felt like a teddy bear. Sadly it was 4500RMB which is almost exactly 450 pounds. After finding out we couldn't even afford a pair of long johns (what I was looking for) we left and decided to walk back checking out the shops on walking street to see if they were as hideously expensive, they were.
