Late last night Katharine and I went to the toilets and met a lady who had had a pair of trainers thrown into her annex around 930pm the night before by some school kids who then ran off! She noticed Katharine's bare feet and asked if she had lost any. Katharine was ecstatic to get them back. I couldn't sleep so in the middle of the night made a hot chocolate and washed up afterwards and not one person stirred in our tin can!! I then slept in until 8am trying to make up for it. After breakfast we went into the library and spent the morning doing schoolwork. The boys did really well and covered quite a lot; Anna is half way through completing Jonny's year 2 money book and Katharine seems to have turned a corner with her maths too. We called into Coles and picked up some more fruit and then went home for lunch. We spent the afternoon having a look around Newcastle, driving out to the Foreshore Park. We walked along Nobby's Beach to the lighthouse and we spotted at least five whales swimming past. The first one we saw was having a terrific time jumping out of the water but was a bit far away for the camera. We also saw a number of dolphins swimming around, especially when we walked out to the end of the breakwall beyond the lighthouse. We drove home back along the coast past lots of little beaches and some amazing houses - Newcastle is much nicer and looks more modern then I expected. Once home, Nick and I had a coffee and a quick read before making dinner together while the kids played outside. Once it was dark everyone had a shower and watched some TV before bed - the family seems to be hooked on House Rules, especially Anna!!
