Nick and I actually woke up before the kids this morning and tried to wait patiently for them to stir before making coffee but the pull was too great! We all had a big breakfast before packing up and were still on the road by 930am. We had a lovely drive up to Suffolk Park, swapping flat sugar cane fields for rolling hills covered in macadamia trees. We checked into the caravan park and had a choice of 11 different sites. We found one close to the camp kitchen so that we had a table to use and once set up we made lunch and then had a walk to the beach. The beach is awesome, as it goes for miles and the water felt really warm - maybe a swim tomorrow!! We headed back down the coast to Ballina, taking the old coast road through Lennox Head (which looks lovely) and parked at Lighthouse Beach. Within minutes we saw several pods of whales enjoying the afternoon sun. We walked the beach to the North Breakwall and watched a dolphin play in the surf. At the breakwall we had a great view of the whales swimming past and so sat and watch them for a while. We drove into town and found an ice cream, which we ate walking along the river. Around 330pm we set off for the airport and waited for Grace to arrive. We watched one flight land and two flights take off which the kids loved. When they saw Grace step off the plane they started screaming and she could see them waving through the window. It was dark by the time we got back to the caravan park so we got Grace checked into her Safari Tent, which is just behind us, and the kids helped her unpack while Nick and I made dinner. We spent the evening sitting inside chatting, as it was too cold to sit outside.
