12th January 2011
I am currently sitting in my hostel (YHA on Manchester Street in Christchurch) and I am BORED senseless. Luckily, I am chatting to Reggie on facebook as he lives in Auckland and awake at this time too!
This morning Liz took me to get my flight from Palmerston North airport, which left at 09.50. It was due to get in to Christchurch at 11.15 but got there at 10.50 instead. I took some leaflets from the info place at the airport and found a shuttle to take me to my hostel. After I checked in and found my room, I went for a little wander around the building so I could find everything as there's a shared kitchen, lounge and wash facilities here - luckily they're all on my floor so I don't have to go too far. I am worried about there being a queue for the shower in the morning though so I'm going to set my alarm early!
Once i'd dumped my big bag in my room, I set off to find the cathedral. It was just down the road and around the corner so I had a nosy around there and walked around the city for a bit before stopping at McDonalds to get some lunch as it's quick and easy and I felt a little self conscious about sitting down to eat in a restaurant alone. There is a kitchen in the hostel so I will have some instant noodles for tea. I hope no-one else is in there though - even though it's the only way to make friends!
I found a cinema on Worcester Street that's showing the new Jake Gyllenhaal film and was debating going to see it but I am quite tired so probably just going to stay in my room for the night and read my book. I have no TV in here so entertainment is limited!
I am feeling quite lonely today but I hope that once I start my tour tomorrow it will change. They are picking up from reception at 7.40am so I better be up bright and early!
Did you know that owls occasionally sleep with their eyes open?
Here's hoping to a good day tomorrow
