This morning we left at 7.30am to head for Mount Cook. On the way we stopped at the steepest street in the world and I walked up it. Yes, I did some exercise. I was bloody knackered by the time I got up there though! And it can't just be me being super unfit as they have a drinking fountain at the top in case you're pooped when you get there :o)
We stopped at Oamaru for a supermarket run and arrived at Mount Cook at about 3ish in the afternoon. Unfortunately, the weather is TERRIBLE and the mountain is completely hidden by cloud! It's also hammering down so hard that the streets are in danger of flooding.
Our hostel is lovely - it used to be a hotel but they built another one further up the road and turned this one into a hostel. I am sharing a 4 bed dorm with Nina and Mark and we have an en-suite and balcony - bliss! When we checked in we were offered a deal - the room, a meal, 1hr free internet and a 3D movie for a really good price. I was meant to be going on a stargazing tour but the weather was too bad :o(
After tea (a nommy chicken burger), we got the shuttle up to the other hotel, where the 3D theatre was. It was also the site of the Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre which was really interesting. We watched two movies:- Mount Cook Magic, which was 3D and a documentary on black holes, which was on a dome shaped screen above our heads and it was AWESOME.
When we got back, I had a bath and went to bed. It's not even 9pm! Haha!
On the downside, Mark and I did some laundry and somewhere along the line I lost a sock :o( What a sad day.
Did you know that donkeys kill more people annually than plane crashes?
