Being a public holiday we had decided not to set out too early today but it’s time we saw the sea again. Finally our wifi is restored, apparently a serious and widespread outage affecting the ‘3’ network everywhere.
It’s our warmest day yet, 14C and dry as we drive through a number of towns and villages beginning to look springlike with blackthorn blossoming white and scores of daffodils, primrose and polyanthus.
We see more of the avenue verte and a good few cyclists on it until we reach the outskirts of Dieppe. Once round the periphery we are back on quieter winding roads until the hazy turquoise of the channel hoves into view with some of the dirty-white cliffs of the Cote d’Albatre [Alabaster Coast] stretching into the distance.
At St Marguerite sur Mer we stop on the seafront. No doubt in summer it’s full here but today there is only a handful of walkers and few cars. It’s a typical out of season seaside resort and not very attractive so we decide to go a few miles further to Veules les Roses which the books say is one of France’s most attractive towns and boasts its smallest river of just 1149 metres.
Just out of town is a campsite or a municipal aire run by the campsite. We opt for the proper site for a change. The extra €7 gives us electricity, wifi and access to the laundry plus we can see the sea from our pitch. We haven’t had a ‘standstill day’ properly this trip and tomorrow, weather permitting, we can visit Vueles at leisure.
