Unsurprisingly it is raining again this morning. We have no real plans or desires for the day so we plan a shortish route to St Saens.
We arrive there around midday just as the congregation is leaving the Easter Sunday service in the big central church. We have no idea what the lessons or sermon were about but they have all left with a ‘me-first’ attitude and Christian motoring is in short supply. The result is that they all bore into tiny gaps and then have to wait for everything to squeeze through. Nick remembers similar scenes outside the Catholic church opposite his childhood home.
St Saens is another pretty little town with brick and timbered terraces and around the square are little bars and cafes that would be appealing on a better day, but the car park is small even without the crazed exodus.
We inch our way around and out of the centre climbing again up on to plains, but now with quite a bit of industry around like quarries and factories.
Some of the road runs beside the avenue verte, a cycle and walking route that runs all the way to Dieppe with a tarmac track levelled out on embankments and cuttings that may have been a former railway.
We reach the free aire at Mesnieres en Bray and line up on the service splat. As Ali is trying to find the correct hose adapter a Frenchman from another motorhome comes across with his box of fittings. We do have the right one, but he shows Ali his collection anyway. What a chat up line; “How about we check out all my Hoseloks baby?”
The park is quite sloping but we ramp up and soon sort out lunch of pate and cheeses from yesterday’s market. It’s a quiet location and now with the sun poking through Ali goes in search of the chateau. Nick stays in trying to sort out a problem we’ve had with wi-fi over the last few days.
Ali returns saying there is some association with postage stamps here as many walls are painted with stamp murals and she has a good photo of such a wall framing the chateau.
Roast lamb for dinner and an earlyish night to bed.
