Twas quite a rolling sea but our cabin was well aft so peaceful despite sliding about in the bunks. At 06:00 the wakey-wakey announcement comes over the tannoy in French, English and Spanish.
We get a coffee in self service and watch the familiar shapes of Port du Bloscon [Roscoff] hove into view. Disembarkation goes well but at passport control Ali is checked for a second look due to her recent hairstyling being much shorter than the photo.
It is showery and we just want a day to chill without going miles. Roscoff is always attractive, but today we decide on another favourite little aire in Penze, only 12 miles away.
We arrive, advance the clocks an hour and Ali walks to the boulangerie to get pain aux raisin for breakfast only to find it is now closed on Fridays. Cereal it is then.
The sky brightens late morning so we take a walk along the river bank, looking at wagtails and shell ducks scampering across the mud which is sculpted into mini mountain ranges and ravines by tidal action. At the other end of town is an old seven storey mill house and rapid weir.
Back in the van we have lunch and take it easy, watching the water gradually filling the river. At high tide it is really strange, two distinct flows in opposite directions like a fluid brown motorway.
It’s a peaceful spot and a lovely way to relax, just enjoying the fact that we’re finally on the road again.
Early evening we get very heavy rain. Time to close up the shutters, pour the wine and cook a bit of salmon for dinner.
