Ouch that was a hot night, never below 26C and stagnant air.
We need shopping, diesel and laundry today so won't be going far initially, just 11 miles or so to Intermarche in Montech. But before we leave Grisoles an English van pulls in and the driver comes to ask what we know about the Crit'Air emissions disc. But then the chat carries on for over an hour but it's no problem, he's a friendly chap with some interesting things to tell us and takes in the things we tell him. It's nearly midday when we get away.
By the time laundry and shopping are done and we've scoffed an English style supermarket sandwich for lunch Ali is so flaked with the heat we can't be bothered with diesel and don't need it as we aren't bothered with driving far either.
Eight miles away is a France Passion; animals, saffron, meals by reservation. And the promise of shade.
We arrive at the farmhouse, with its vivid purple shutters, and are shown where to park in a little copse. The view looks from high up, over a huge flat plain, north towards Montauban and the bumpy horizon formed by the mountains of the Grande Causses de Quercy.
With every window open a cool breeze blows through the van but it is 31C in and out.
In the evening Ali sees the owner and buys some farm eggs and a local apero based on rhum [sic] vanila and Espelette peppers.
Beside us a few sheep baa as they graze and occasionally there is the clunk of an acorn falling on the roof but there is one annoying noise; the doodlebug drone of the Rose Beetle. Singly, these little green flying woodchips have their charm but there are literally dozens of them landing on everything and flying clumsily into your face or crashing into the woodwork.
Salad Nicoise for supper and an early night.
