Here is another catch up postcard!
Parents in BsAs!
On 11 April my parents came to visit me for two and a half weeks. It was great to see them and take them to all of my favourite places. Their arrival also inspired me to go to some places that I hadn't yet been to, such as the beautiful Plaza San Martin, Puerto Madero and Catedral Metropolitana. Plus, we went to the Iguazu Falls, both the Argentine and the Brazilian side (please see Brazil postcard dated 23 April 2006), and Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay (please see Uruguay postcard dated 25 April 2006).
One of the many great things about BsAs is the number and range of musical events. For three nights running we went to three different venues to see three very different performances. The first event was a Reggae concert (how cool are my parents?!) at Luna Park. The atmosphere was very chilled and the music was cool; the line-up was Alpha Blondy, Andrew Tosh, Tribo de Jah and Fidel.
The following evening couldn't have been more different from Luna Park, as we went to the grand Teatro Colon to see El Acorazado Potemkin with Polly and her parents. The film was shown as part of the 8th International Independent Film Festival. This was the first time that a film has been shown at the Teatro Colon and it was certainly better than going to the cinema! To accompany the film a marvellous orchestra played to create a wonderful atmosphere in one of the most beautiful theatres that I have ever been to and the acoustics were outstanding.
On the third evening we went to see El Choque Urbano at El Ateneo, again with Polly and her parents. El Choque Urbano has won many awards for being an original musical masterpiece. The music may not be to everyone's liking, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The artists create music by using anything other than instruments! It sounds strange, and it is, but the energy of the performers is mindblowing and their originality can't be questioned. For example, they created music from using plastic bags!
I also got to see Boca Juniors play again! Woo hoo! They played against Arsenal (obviously not the Gunners)! My experience of La Bombonera was different this time, as I sat in platea as oppose to popular. The atmosphere was still great, but as you actually have seats in platea people don't jump up and down constantly! For me, popular rules!
As the football was primarily for Dad I thought I better find something to amuse Mam, and I came up with the one and only...SHOPPING! BsAs was made for shopaholics! There are so many places to go, but some of the best include Paseo Alcorta and Patio Bullrich shopping malls and the boutiques of Palermo.
Thanks for coming Mam and Dad! I hope you had as good a time as what I did!
People
As usual significant people left La Casa Fitz Roy - this month Jen and Mats. I flew out with Jen, and Mats arrived one week after me and I got to know them both really well. I shared a room with Jen and it`ll take some getting used to her not being around; the room feels empty without her. I'll really miss our little chats, meals out, our love of sweet things - everything about her in fact! As for Mats I'll miss his fantastic company, generousity and of course playing, or should I say attempting, to play pool with him! I don't think it's possible for me to get any worse at pool so maybe if I improve we can have a re-match one day in Sweden?!
