Well our first day in Mendoza got off to a shaky start, as Clem and I arrived around 7am and had a spot of bother trying to get a hostel. One was shut, another was full and another seemed OK until we saw the bathrooms! Eventually we found a nice one!
Mendoza is a beautiful city; all of the streets are lined with trees and there are five nice plazas. We saw all of the city and the surrounding area from the Terraza Mirador. After lunch we went to a small, but decent, modern art museum in the main plaza (Independencia). Luckily Mendoza is still relatively warm so we walked through the beautiful Parque General San Martin. However, the main attraction of Mendoza is the fact that it`s Argentina`s Wine Capital. After Polly and Edd arrived on Mon we all went to a beautiful restaurant called Mi Tierra. Each room in the restaurant is dedicated to a particular Bodega, and you get a mini-tour of each upon entrance. In addition to delicious food you get to sample three different wines from a bodega instead of buying just one bottle, which is a great way of trying more for less!
As you know I never tire of trying wine so on Tuesday Clem, Edd and I went on a Bikes and Wine Tour! It was great fun, especially as Clem and I rode a tandem! It wasn't through choice - it was the only bike left! Somehow we managed not to fall off - even after a few glasses of wine at La Rural Bodega (apparently the best historical Bodega in Mendoza). Whilst on the tour we had lunch at a lovely country restaurant (Almacen del Sur) and went to a family run liquor and chocolate factory. On Wednesday we tried to go to another Bodega, but we were repeatedly told the wrong information about how to get there so after about two hours of trying we gave up and went for lunch and had a chilled afternoon before catching a bus to Tucuman.
