Quick 120kms out to the Glen Helen Resort today which is at the far end of the McDonnell Ranges. A number of places don't really look like the brochures, and I've come to realise that the term 'resort' simply means there's a variety of accommodation available such as camp sites, caravan sites, bunkhouses, and motel rooms, and there maybe a pool - it certainly doesn't equate to 5-start luxury however! This place has a nice bar and restaurant but the sites are quite narrow, and the amenities are demountables - still clean though.
It was very hot and dusty so we spent the afternoon relaxing under the shade of the awning doing bits and pieces around the van like washing, super gluing broken things, bike repairs, schoolwork, soccer etc. A big dust storm hit the resort in the afternoon and sent everyone scurrying - I have my camera ready for the next one! The helipad is just nearby so we watched the chopper come and go for the scenic flights.
We spent some time in the late afternoon watching the sun set, then had an early dinner. A friendly couple next to us had set up a fire, so we shared some travel stories, which was a nice way to end the day.
