We left Tennant Creek around 9am after picking up morning coffees/hot chocs from Top of the Town, which we just had to return to. Couple of hours later we stopped at a place called Renner Springs, and it was a real oasis and had an interesting roadhouse with thousands of caps hanging from the rafters!
For lunch we stopped at a place called Elliott - it had a lovely tree lined shady street parallel to the Stuart Highway, and quite nice for stop. A couple of hours later around 3pm, we were excited to arrive at the Daly Water's Pub and relieved that the campground still had spots available as you're unable to book. We also ordered our dinner and sitting time! The pub interior is crazy: underwear, hats, shirts, money, thongs, number plates, etc all hanging or stuck to walls everywhere! Whilst having a beer Eamon said "Oh, there's Lachlan from Drummoyne Public School" - so we briefly met Tim & Gillian Giles and Lachy & Elly - they are on a similar length trip to us and the Small family are mutual friends who have done some travelling around these parts - it's a small world! We then enjoyed happy hour while Dad and the kids had a dip in the pool.
It's Eamon's birthday in a couple of days, so we had his birthday dinner here - and the Beef and Barra signature dish was the best meal Mum's had in a month (sorry Dad!). Robyn from the Pub had put out a blackboard sign reading "Happy Birthday Eamon - 8 years old" and also put balloons and a table decoration on our table which was lovely.
An added bonus was the band which started off with an ABBA tribute for an hour, then moved onto 70's and 80's music for another 90 mins. The place was buzzing as all the songs were great - the highlight being Nutbush City Limits which brought everyone onto the dance floor. Great place to stay!
