Nervous Turkey!
The storm all night last night kept everyone in the oversized tree house awake. Some parts of it also collapsed causing screaming in the middle of the night. We awoke to a disastrous scene. The roof of the Chill Out House had given way. Everything was soaking wet and the attempt by the staff to keep things dry had been destroyed.
This was a sign of things to come as today was a day full of fails but with good intentions.
We had promised Craig and Melissa that we would take them on a scooter tour of the island (Koh Lanta) and show them the beautiful places we had found on our visit a few days previous. We made it to the "Old Town" which is no older than 40 years and not very impressive. It was here where the first stomach problems of the year attacked us. Jelly Belly was out in full force as the four of us all had symptoms. This put a dampener on the day but we did our best to make the most of it. We just kept saying to ourselves "We are in the jungle. If you have to go, you have to go. No matter where, no matter when." This took the anxious edge off the exploration.
On our way down to the south of the island a monsoon hit. This means that the most beautiful beach in the world can even look unattractive. Unfortunately, the still water and soft sand of the southern Lanta beaches had turned into turbulent murky water and damp dark sand. The motorbike journey back was horrible, cold and wet with breaks in restaurants when the weather made the roads too dangerous. But hey it's all an adventure.
The regular visits to the toilet (we need to say the communal toilet situated right next to the bar) made it hard to venture from the hostel tonight. We are just praying that it isn't Mon's food as it is so damn tasty.
