Up and at 'em. A 10.30am meet for breakfast turned into 12pm as the struggling gang pulled themselves together. We were surprisingly fresh faced and rallying the troops from the arranged time. The plan was to kayak to Phi Phi lay, the smaller island of the two and also the famous location of Maya Bay. This is where the Leonardo DiCaprio classic "The Beach" was filmed. We had read reviews saying that the trip wasn't for the faint hearted and verged on the wrong side of danger. As a group of 9 we decided it would be fine and enough people to act safely in the event of an accident. The plan was a 4 mile kayak, 2 of which were in open water. When we rented the kayaks the Thai guys words were "if you go to Maya Bay you can rent off somebody else. I need money but I don't need dead bodies. I'm saving your lives by saying this." This shocked us all that he refused a significant amount of money in terms of safety. In Thailand this must mean that it is dangerous. We compromised on a boat trip that would take us to all the great locations instead. Maya Bay (stopping just off shore so we could see the beauty but not pay the 400 baht fee for entering the beach), Two spectacular snorkeling spots with thousand of curious tropical fish and corals (probably some of the best snorkeling we have done), a "secret" lagoon (that everyone knew about but was epic anyway) and Monkey Beach. Monkey Beach was a tiny beach of silica sand and clear water that was lined with little annoying monkeys stealing and being mischievous. We left our belongings in the boat and just relaxed in the surf. The best thing that happened today is that we overcame our deadly jellyfish fear and were in the ocean for hours. Luckily it was clear enough that you could have spotted one from metres away. Our own private boat tour by a local was a quarter the price as the mainstream and double the experience. BONUS.
We ended the day with the last supper at "The Worlds Best Pad Thai Guy" (we had now eaten every meal on Koh Phi Phi here) as everyone was leaving tomorrow after an eventful few weeks together.
