First order of business. Return to the old town to order some 97% hand made silver rings that we came across yesterday. We have passed up on too many cool souvenirs at this point to miss another. We have been looking for something like this to reminds us of our journey for a while now.
The ridiculously hot weather means one thing. BEACH DAY.
Time went so quickly and in no time the sun was setting. We are now the proud owners of a selfie stick and tripod that we can attach our GoPro too. We are finally "those guys". The awesome sunsets on Lanta are the best we have seen and it was time to try and record a sunset time lapse, utilising our new equipment. It was all going great until for half an hour of the most beautiful sunset a Chinese couple invaded the shot and began the spectacle that is "the Chinese selfie charade". Some people have no shame. Ok fair enough they didn't know that they were ruining our once in a life time time lapse but the poses that they were being pulled in front of a beach full of backpackers was unnecessary. It was like the women was modeling for vogue magazine. There can't be many Chinese people left in China because from experience their main purpose in life is to travel the world, getting in the way of everybody's photos. (In the least stereotypical voice possible.)
Stomach Status - Iffy but not affecting proceedings.
The Gypsy Bar shop next to the hostel was to have an opening party tonight with local legendary reggae band "Pad Thai". On entry the bar was one of the coolest we have being in all year and provided a great atmosphere. However there wasn't much reggae rather 60s rock and roll. Awesome. The guitarist was outstanding and nailing all the classic solos note for note. Of course Matt was glued to him. When it came to the end of the set everybody was dancing and the bass player (who had been talking to us previously) came out in to the audience to dance with us. In no time Matt went behind him, wrapped his arms around the bass player and took over his part while the Thai danced in the strange musical man hug. Unexpectedly there were two more bands on, the last of which were outstanding with every single player of the young band being the at the top of their game. They could easily play weddings, cruise ships etc.
We ended the night with a 2am stroll on the beach which we shared with hundreds of hermit crabs. What a ridiculous but amazing sight.
