Day 11! We stopped at a cafe near the hostel for breakfast before walking down to the Capitol for a guided tour. The building is amazing outside and inside! We got a tour of the rotunda (the dome) and the old House of Representatives room and the statues room. The Americans sure are patriotic, I lost count of the number of times I heard "freedom" "liberty" and "independence".Then we got passes to go and sit in the gallery to watch the senate in action. Can't say much was happening, a lot of milling about and "yays" and "nays". We walked through the tunnel linking the Capitol to the library of congress, which was also an amazing building! We then walked along the Mall a bit and stopped for a hot dog at one of the stands. Then we headed for the White House, which was a wee bit of a disappointment because we couldn't get anywhere near it! We only managed to get really dodgy photos where it was away in the background. But never mind, it was still cool to see. We met a guy Catherine knows, Ty, in the evening for dinner and drinks which was good! We went to a bar called Circa and had burgers and pineapple mojitos, mmm. He told us about some good places to check out in the next few days. Another day of so much walking, so I'm grateful to be heading to bed! L x
