Day 10! First of all I am well aware that Washington, D.C. is not in Maryland, but Off Exploring wouldn't let me write the blog without a state and as D.C. is not a state it wasn't an option to choose from. Looks silly but not much I can do about it. Anyway, the first half of our day was spent in Philadelphia. We went super west coast this morning, getting mani pedis and then a green juice for breakfast! It was so nice to get our nails done, it really should be more affordable in the UK. We bought lunch from the salad bar at Whole Foods and ate at the house before heading for the bus to Washington, D.C. It looks like the cities are so close on the map but it was a 4 hour bus ride! We arrived at the hostel around 6.40pm, and it took until 7.30pm before we actually got to our room, the guy on check in was so disorganised! Wasn't the best start but he upgraded us to a 6 bed girls only dorm which was cool of him. We walked into town a little to find dinner because by this point we were starving, and ended up in the sports bar of the Marriott hotel. It was good though! We left the restaurant and could see a festival type thing going on in a square, so we walked closer to investigate and realised that Paramore were playing a gig in the middle of Mt Vernon Square. It was so bizarre! Turned out they were playing for the Microsoft Partners Convention, so we stood at the railings and watched for a while because it was still close enough to see! Then these guys gave us their badges so that we could get in to the convention which was so cool of them. They were just like "go and enjoy the free beer ladies". Unfortunately we got in too late to get free beer as they had stopped serving but we got free water, cans of juice, popcorn and ice cream (we're poor students okay, we'll take whatever's free!). They had loads of free burgers as corn on the cob and stuff but we had just eaten, damn! It was so surreal, I was not expecting our night to end with a free Paramore gig and free food and drink. Thanks Bill Gates. L x
