Day 16! WE WENT TO THE BAHAMAS TODAY!! Super early start to the day (5.10am pick up), even though the ferry wasn't leaving until 8. The ferry took 3 hours to get to Freeport on Grand Bahama island, and then we got the 'party bus' to Port Lucaya! The bus driver was so cool with his Caribbean accent and played Caribbean party tunes on his open sided bus the whole way there. He dropped us off at the market place and we had some lunch (and a Bahama mama, of course) and had a look around the shops. I probably would have bought more souvenirs but all the shop owners were super pushy and that just puts me off! After that the sun came out so we headed to the beach for most of the afternoon, sunbathing and swimming in the turquoise warm water. The beach was beautiful, surrounded by Palm trees and fancy hotels. We had to be back to the bus for 5pm so we stopped for a cocktail and some cheap booze on the way back (no taxes in the Bahamas - who knew! - so litres of Smirnoff were $15). We got caught in a huge rainfall just as we were walking back so we ended up on the bus soaked. No party bus on the way back because the weather was too bad for the open sided one. And that was the end of our day! We got the ferry back to Fort Lauderdale and got back to our apartment at midnight - a long day but an amazing one. I loved the Bahamas and would go back in a heartbeat and stay in one of the fancy hotels! L x
