Day 22! Update on the night bus: it was terrible. It was so uncomfortable and cold (apparently they have no control over the A/C) that we got no sleep, and arrived in New Orleans at 6.30am a very grumpy bunch. It was too early to drop our bags off so we wandered around the city looking for a park to sit in, which took us a good while but eventually we found Louis Armstrong park which opened at 7.30. It was a super cute park with a little river and ducks and things. We headed to our apartment (another Airbnb find) to drop our luggage off, and headed to Cafe du Monde for their famous coffee and beignets for breakfast. After this we became a lot less grumpy, they were so tasty! We had a look around the French market and shops in the French quarter, went to Jackson square, and booked a swamp and plantation tour for tomorrow before going to Coops Place for lunch. It came highly recommended as somewhere to try that serves traditional New Orleans food, but unfortunately fussy old me didn't have any for lunch because it consists mainly of seafood and rabbit. Anyway I had a lovely chicken poboy and Cajun fries and Catherine tried the tasting platter which she said was really good! We wandered around the shops again and stopped in one of Bourbon Street's many bars for a drink. By this time we could check into our apartment and were exhausted so we headed there for a quick nap and a shower since we haven't had one since yesterday morning, yuck. We went to Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville for dinner because happy hour was on, but there was a love act on in the bar and hardly anyone there and it was a bit cringy. We just ate really quickly and left! I had pulled pork sliders with coleslaw though and they were so good. We went to a bar called BMC and listened to some live jazz/blues (when in Rome... Or New Orleans) and then on the walk home passed so many live jazz bands in the street! Very cool and answers the question as to why our apartment came equipped with earplugs... L x
