Today we headed off on a day trip exploring Cape Leveque. So it was back out the 34k's on the rough dirt road (which took 45 mins in the car) till we hit the bitumen and headed north. Cygnet bay pearl farm was our first stop. It was great to see a working pearl farm. We were unable to do a tour out on the water that day but we had a look around and went up to the lookout where we could see out over the gorgeous turquoise water. The water was like glass, no waves and quite shallow... we wish we could take a dip! They said you could swim when the water was so clear but always in pairs ;)
Next we drove up to the aboriginal community of Bardi at One arm Point. Stopped for a photo at the boat ramp, was a gorgeous spot and again the water was very inviting and crystal clear.
We headed to Koolajamin resort at the tip of Cape leveque for lunch. Our mud maps led us on a bit of a goose chase (we were just showing the perfects the scenic route) but we got there in the end ;)
We were informed we could eat at the cafe there but if we wanted to go down to the beach and swim it was $5/person!!
We got a lovely spot looking out over the cape and ocean, even spotted a whale breaching from our picnic table. The kids thought that was pretty cool. Apparently in peak season you can spot them everywhere!
Shaun then gave me my birthday pressie... pearl earrings and a bracelet :) I felt very spoilt and lucky to take home some jewels from Cygnet Bay.
Sal also got some gorgeous earrings and a lovely pearl pendant for her birthday. We were two excited gals, with our matted hair and red dirt stained feet... but we had our pearls on :)) The sales ladies at the pearl farm must have loved Shaun and Garry!
Sal asked the ladies at the resort if we could have a map of the camping available and go for a drive to have a looksey for future reference. They normally don't let day trippers in so we were lucky. After driving through the campground to the beach I could see why they wanted to keep it all to themselves... it was a little paradise. They had shelters right on the beach you could camp at which would be awesome. No generators though and the day we were there it was 40+ deg with no wind. It would def be a lovely place to camp when it was a bit cooler... next trip ;)
We followed some 4x4 tracks through the red cliffs down to the other side of the beach. It was similar to Barn Hill with the awesome red cliffs and lovely beaches. Kids had a lil paddle in the water and we took some photos while Archie and Zane stayed in the cars.
We then headed back to middle lagoon and had an easy dinner of nachos all round.
