Our first morning here and it was a hot night, Archie woke a few times and everyone was up early ;)
Our camper fridge definitely hasn't been working properly since Windjana and this morning it is hot. So after throwing some food out and putting what we can in the engle, Shaun has a look to try and fix it.
Today we went for a walk to Amalia Gorge, Shaun and sal stayed in the cars as Archie and Zane were sleeping. Then we headed to Home Valley station to have a squiz and see if it was worth us camping there after El Questro. It was a great place also that offered very similar walks, tours and boat trips. They did have powered sites although no shade at all. We decided to keep our camp at El Questro and come back to Home Valley another day for a day trip.
We then set off on a 120k 4x4 trek that took us around the Cockburn range. It was a great drive that followed the Penticost river for a while. Seen a couple of crocs from a distance. The scenery was unreal, changed from lots of rocks with Boab trees to quite dessert like with flat mud plains. The road came out near Wyndham, Australia's oldest town. So we drove there and spiraled up the mountain to the 5 rivers lookout. What a great spot, there was a bit of smoke about but it was still unreal to see out over the huge rivers coming into Wyndham. Stopped at the huge croc statue for a photo then called into the shop for some supplies. The next day was Tuesday and we extended our stay to Sunday as there was still heaps we wanted to see while here.
We were doing Emma Gorge this morning. The resort had closed for the season but we could still access the walking track we just couldn't enter until 7am when they opened the gates to drive in. Bummer as we are all up by 5am lately and it would have been great to do an early walk to really avoid the heat.
It was about a 1hr walk in and the pool when we got there was beautiful. We stayed there for a while swimming, eating and cooling down. Archie had a swim also, was a little cool for him at first but then he loved it.
We were all nice and cool then for the walk back. Caleb and Indi had fun walking over the rocks and through the little streams.
I had a migrain that arvo so I had a rest while the others went to the restaurant at El Questro for lunch. It was 37 deg in the camper with the a/c on ;)
Cooked yummy lamb shanks in the camp oven for dinner while Shaun took the kids on a 4x4 drive throughout the park.
We had a quiet day the next day with my migraine so Shaun took the kids to Moonshine Gorge for a swim and Sal cooked schnitzels and veges for dinner.
