Before I went to sleep Sunday night, I felt a little something-something going on in my throat. A few of my friends were complaining at dinner that they too had been feeling, for lack of a better phrase, 'under the weather' (which was convenient considering it rained on and off all weekend). I didn't really think much of it though, made a green tea, and went to sleep.
Fast forward to Monday morning and I have NO VOICE. My parents were trying to talk to me on Skype and the most I do was whisper. So of coarse my mom was like "you need to go to the doctors asap" and I'm glad I took her advice.
So before my 12 o'clock class I went to the clinic in the Campus Centre. I didn't have time to make an appointment, but after the secretary heard me struggling, she said she'd 'squeeze me in'. I only waited literally like 15 mins (this is a shorter wait time than my family doctor...with an appointment). When I was called in, after going over a few details, the doctor asked me straight up if I smoked and if I was out partying all weekend...? A little forward, I thought so too. Anyways, I replied 'no' and then she took a look at my throat and ears. Did a swap of my throat.....end result: Laryngitis. FML.
Greattttt. On top of medicine, her best advice: Don't talk. For those of you who know me, you KNOW this is just not possible. So I take the papers and go back to the secretary. She tells me I have to pay 16.00$ for the visit. I explain to her that I'm an exchange student and already paid the 350$ for health coverage. 5 mins later- "I can't find you on the system- you need to pay now and then go talk to Student Services"--- kinda sounds like York, huh?
Fine. I pay and go wait in a HUGE line...only to be told that I was in fact in the wrong line and I had to come back in the afternoon. So I went to my class and then came back, waited another 45 mins. Eventually I make my way to the front and after a few phone calls, OHSC (the Aussie Health Insurance company) STILL can't find my policy number. So I leave my contact information with the girl and she promises to call me back. About 4 hours later, my cell rings...however, I still have no voice so I pass it to my friend Alyssa who pretends to be me haha. Basically what I got from Alyssa was that my card was never ordered but I should be getting something in the mail very shortly, then I have to back to OSHC to file a 'claim' to get my money back. Mind you, its only 16.00$ but still, thats not the point. I should be covered for this kind of nonsense. So ya, that was my day in a nutshell.
Its about 9pm now and I just got back from Aeren's room. We finally booked our Sydney hostel for my b-day weekend extravaganza! I'm super excited. There's 10 of us going. I wish my friends back home could be here...but don't worry, I'll take lots of pictures!
Okay, I am gonna get ready for bed and try to rest my voice.
Keep in touch!
